Changes Review Issue 10
For this end-of-summer issue of Changes Review, six poets—최 Lindsay, Amy De’Ath, Jo Barchi, Mohammed Zenia, Mónica de la Torre, S*an D. Henry-Smith—present excerpts from their works in progress. The principle of this curation basically follows from Jack Spicer: observing the movement and formation of thought in poems requires scale. Scale clarifies the stakes, the ambition, the internal variation, and the constraint that form exerts on language over time. The poem becomes more perceptibly fabulous and more specific. In their poems collected here, these six in particular play out fantasies of power, control, video-game-like omnipotence and severe self-deprecation, which is one way of wrestling with language, and subbing for the experience.
